Last night in the MGM Grand Garden Arena a change of champions occurred. In the UFC 98 main event Rashad Evans attempted to defend his Light Heavyweight Champion title against the very dangerous Brazilian Karate fighter, Lyoto Machida. Unfortunately for Evans and his fans (which includes me) in the second round of the bout Rashad was hit with a vicious straight left followed by a fury of punches knocking the champ to the canvas and eventually forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to end the brutality at the 3:57 mark.
On a personal note I knew coming into the fight Rashad Evans was going to have serious problems defend against the unorthodox style used by Lyoto Machida but I still envisioned Evans as the victor. Being a long time Evans follower to witness the beating he was delivered was quite uncomfortable and honestly a little painful to watch. But one most give respect when respect is due and Lyoto Machida definitely deserved a show of respect after last night’s performance.
“Karate's back” shouted by Lyoto Machida.
